"It is not merely for today, but for all time to come that we should perpetuate for our children's children this great and free government, which we have enjoyed all our lives."  - Abraham Lincoln

"Dave, if you get the chance to Google the attached list of US Federal Government agencies, bureaus, departments, and other entities be sure you're sitting down.  After you review, be sure to look at the summary and comments.  Here are a few related comments:

1) This list doesn't include local, state, county, and other tax supported entities.

2) All the entities listed (and those not listed) represent employees that enjoy compensation at levels above that of the private sector.  The effect is compounded by attractive fringe benefits and less specific perks such as more paid holidays, earlier retirement ages, and greater job security.

3) These government employees are also voters.  Given the attractiveness of these jobs they are ill inclined to vote for anyone that may represent a threat.  Most recognize that the current direction is unsustainable.  However it's difficult to accept the sacrifices of necessity.  That's what's happening in Europe.

Not to seem a pessimist but the point of this epistle is that the numbers don't trend well for change.  The executive branch, the congress, and both political parties are struggling to sustain the cost of government in its present, or perhaps slightly reduced form.  What's really necessary is a total reconstruction.  Define the services that government is responsible for, then determine how to provide these in the most efficient and cost effective manner possible. Have a great week."

WARNING:  Be sure you are sitting down to review this list.  It is truly unbelievable, and we wonder why Government is so inefficient and ineffectual -
